Ching Mah was one of the 14 Chinese miners who were killed on July 15th, 1903 when a gas explosion occurred at the No. 6 mine. The Chinese were blamed for the explosion, and it was claimed that they had caused the gas to ignite by illicitly bringing and lighting matches in the shafts.
