History
Starting in 1901, miners had to pass certifications to access more skilled positions including being a Shot lighter, Fireboss, Overman or Manager. This certificate grants the right to the recipient to apply to Overman positions.
The opportunity for advancement with these types of additional certification was restricted based on age, experience, gender and race.
