History
In the aftermath of the August 1913 riots during the Big Strike (1912-1914), the militia was summoned to quell the violence. Troops were deployed in Cumberland, Ladysmith, and Nanaimo with the intention of deterring any further disturbances. As part of their mission, the troops escorted the mine workers to their workplaces, aiming to restore order and maintain peace.
