History
This wooden paddle was used for corporal punishment in schools. Corporal punishment in schools was common in the early 20th century until midcentury, and was formally banned in Canada in 2004.
Description
Front of paddle reads: " Board of Correction. A child should never, be punished without, A definite END in VIEW., Painted Canyon, N. Dak? Badlands." and " May Be Used On Any Child From 5 to 75."
Back of paddle reads:" Victims Sign Here." Signed by Cumberland students on back.
