Adam Charleston was born in Scotland in 1877. In 1919 he immigrated to Canada, and found work as a miner in the No. 4 mine. On February 8th, 1923, not long after the disaster in August 1922, another gas explosion tore through No. 4 mine, even deadlier than the last. 35 workers were killed in the explosion, including Adam Charleston. He was buried in the Cumberland cemetery in block 3-40, his grave stone erected by his brother and sister.
