Cause of death: Killed by a fall of rock

John Cushon was a tracklayer, or trackman, at the no. 1 mine in Union, which is present day Cumberland. The tracklayer's job was to build and move the rail tracks the coal carts used to transport coal throughout the mine. On April 12th, 1891, John was severely injured by a fall of rock and died of injuries shortly after.
