Industrialization

In the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, the Industrial Revolution dominated the global landscape. Railroads were laid across countries, steamships sailed across oceans, and factories sprung up in cities. At the heart of the Industrial Revolution was one key natural resource: coal. The demand for this little black rock drove settlement on Vancouver Island. Inspired by coal, Cumberland emerged through the thick coastal Douglas fir forest at the foot of the Beaufort mountains.
